This guide has been developed to simplify the installation process. It’s probably easiest if you print out these pages and then follow them step by step.
|
Before we get started make sure that the computer you’re going to use meets the following requirements:
-
Microsoft Windows 98, NT, 2000 or later
-
Intel Pentium II processor (or equivalent 300+ MHz processor)
-
At least 128 MB of available RAM
-
At least 100 MB of available disk space
-
A recent Web browser, such as Internet Explorer
You should also have at hand the following information that you received when you purchased FLUiD CMS:
You will need a Web server with FTP (File Transfer Protocol) access, and the following information from your Web master:
-
The FTP Host
-
Your FTP Port number
-
The FTP Path
-
The Web Path
-
The FTP Username
-
The FTP Password
|
And finally, before installing FLUiD CMS you will need to disable any antivirus programs, such as Norton Antivirus. In particular, it’s important to disable script blocking in these antivirus programs. After the installation is complete you can reactivate them.
Now that we have all the necessary equipment and information, let’s get started.
Step One
Downloading FLUiD CMS
|
|
-
In the address bar of your browser (usually Internet Explorer) enter the download link provided and a download box will open.
-
Note: this may take some time for dial-up users, but DO NOT close this page until the download is finished.
|
|
|
-
Also, depending on the security settings of your browser (in Internet Explorer these are modified in Tools>Internet Options), the dialog box shown at left may appear.
-
Click Save and choose a destination folder somewhere on your computer—DO NOT choose 'Open'.
-
When it’s finished downloading, go to the destination folder that you chose, and doubleclick on the file that was downloaded.
|
Step Two
Installing FLUiD CMS
|
|
-
After doubleclicking on the file that was downloaded, the installation process starts by showing the screen at left.
-
Click Next and follow the instructions that appear.
-
Read the Software Licensing Agreement, choose Next.
-
Choose a destination folder, usually C:\Program Files
-
Click Next and FLUiD CMS installation will start.
-
The installation takes a few minutes, and then the FLUiD CMS icon appears on the Desktop.
|
Step Three
FLUiD CMS Set-up
|
|
-
Doubleclick the FLUiD CMS icon to open the FLUiD CMS Login window:
-
Enter a FLUiD CMS Username and Password.
-
Note: If you’ve already set up a site with FLUiD CMS and you’re using this guide again, make sure that the title bar of the Login window displays the title of the site you want to open, then enter your FLUiD CMS Username and FLUiD CMS Password.
|
|
|
-
If the title bar is not showing the right site name then click the Advanced tab and choose the site you want from the drop-down menu.
-
If you’re creating a site with FLUiD CMS for the first time, click the Advanced tab.
-
Choose New Site from the drop-down menu.
-
Leave the Connection Key field blank—it’s for an advanced feature not covered here.
-
Give your Web site a name in the Site Name field.
-
Choose the type of site you want to create, either Local or Remote (usually Remote).
|
For the next few steps you’ll need your FTP account details as listed at the beginning of this guide.
-
Enter the name of your FTP host, for example www.the-host-domain-here.com
-
Enter the Port number (it’s usually 21).
-
Enter your FTP Path and the Web Path.
-
Choose the connection type you want, either Active or Passive (usually Passive).
-
Enter your FTP Username and Password.
-
The E-mail information is optional, and you can leave the authentication options at their default setting.
-
Enter your License key.
-
Click Login.
|
|
-
At this point you might have to re-enter your FLUiD CMS Password (NOT the FTP Password). Then a window opens to let you know that the system is configuring itself. This may take a few minutes since a Full Publish is being executed.
-
When the Publish is finished you’ll see this screen, the FLUiD CMS Workspace.
|
|
|
-
Your browser (usually Internet Explorer) should also launch automatically, opening to the FLUiD CMS sample site.
-
If the browser does not launch automatically, go to the main menu in FLUiD CMS and select Tools>Launch Site to open the sample site.
|
Now your site is ready to go.
